Comparatively cooler weather, so increased age a bit for both dogs. Worked on making articles more rewarding for both as well. Each had 2 unflagged turns, article on 2nd leg. Dylan’s intermediate & end articles not readily visible. Both tracks aged 2 hr. Sunny, 71degrees, 5mph, 79%
Seren had some difficulty on 1st leg where a man had walked across the track as I was putting the harness on, so a very fresh cross track. She figured it out with some encouragement & started pulling again very quickly after she got back on the track. Both dogs doing well with waiting at the articles, will start randomizing the food after a few more sessions. Dylan found his ‘hidden’ articles without a problem. Kept his line short to keep him tighter to the track. He was mildly distracted by vehicle passing by & stopping to watch us work
Personal preference: that’s a lot of talking at the accidental cross track. At a test, would you know if it’s a XT? Would you know to tell her she’s right? I would have followed, on a shorter line, when she made the correct decision—yes, generally I want you to let her prove she’s got it. BUT when she has struggled, I want you to add confidence to the picture not take $$ out of the confidence bank. Following tells her clearly she’s correct. And I think she handled the XT well—limiting her options might have allowed her to make the correct decision sooner. She really gave up on the first turn, and the second one was lovely. Since the only difference is age, I might rewalk her older tracks, and make sure you scuff the turns. The second turn is what you are looking for, so mimic how you laid that one (scuffing out) and delay walk then scuff until she can turn without stress yawning and/or laying down. Articles are much better—again, personally, I wouldn’t be randomizing food any time soon. If you have tests conning up, gamble she’ll indicate the third one after no food on the second. It’s better than letting her miss them in training.
ReplyDeleteDylan: he appears to be enjoying this. Again, I’d not be talking on the first leg. I’d use my line and movement to assist him. First turn was lovely and well handled. Second turn I suspect you turned your body left, based on camera angle. His articles are SO much better!!! Keep it up!! Again, IMO way too early to wean/randomize food
