Kelly’s Farm. Sunny, temp in the low 40’s, moderate wind, low humidity. Dylan had a 2 turn track, laid by Chris. About 90 min. old. He did well except preferred not to walk in the prickly stuff. Afterward we did some pick up the treats in the prickly cover games, outside of the tracking context & we will continue to do this  https://youtu.be/bqTovL-Ttrs?feature=shared

Hanover Courthouse Seren: 2 turn track going through strip of woods. Age 4 hours. I thought this went very well other than a few glitches after coming out of the woods To do:  distance track, stairstep @3.5hr, obstacle exercise track using asphalt road (after finding a place I feel safe) https://youtu.be/92foqH-ZKIg?feature=shared Dylan: two 1 turn tracks. Track 1 was 1 hour old & went very well. Track 2 was 2 hours old & started fine but he had a lot of trouble with the turn. Don’t quite know what to make of that except it may have been too big a jump in age. I should have offered water, but didn’t have any as I didn’t think we needed it for such a short track. (He didn’t want any when we got back to the car) He has done 2 hours before, just not recently. This track had a lot of food on it, & he missed at least half of it. Will need to revisit this scenario. To do:  8 turn stairstep, distance track, series of 1 turn tracks starting at 1 hr old & increasi...

Library Seren:  4 turn track with a portion in the woods, a road crossing, 3 hours old. 1-3 food drops per leg. Article in woods had food in it. End article (with food in it) had been moved ~6 ft to the right. She downed where it should have been, then we both caught sight of the article at the same time. It still had one piece of food in it Seren didn’t seem to think this one was as much fun as I thought she would. Ants were an issue & it got hot faster than anticipated - related? There was also a lot more activity at this site than there usually is when library is closed, I felt like I had to rush her across the road as there was a lot more vehicle traffic than normal. As on Tuesday, I like how she recognizes where an article had been. https://youtu.be/_V7tDqo9Qp8?feature=shared

Surry P&R Dylan:  4 turn track, mostly in woods. Scuff start & out of turns, 1 food drop/leg. Age 1 hour. I meant to drop an article in the woods, but forgot. Dylan did very well. Needed verbal reminder for start article, but not end one https://youtu.be/Dvxhht_YQyM?feature=shared

Courthouse Park Seren:  straight line article track, 3.5 hr old. I didn’t notice anyone messing with the track while it was aging, but someone obviously had. The end glove was 2-3 yards to the right of the track when we got to it. Seren hunted for it where it had originally been, then noticed it off to the right & went to it. 5th article (green hat) was gone & she hunted very hard for it, tried especially to go left but I didn’t let her go more than 30ft. She eventually lay down 2-3 yds beyond where it should have been. After we were done, on the way back to the car, I saw it hanging on a fence ~50 yds to the left of the track. Third article (leather belt), she overran by 2-3 strides, stopped on her own & came back to it. I thought it interesting that when I deliberately toss an article to the side of the track, she generally goes straight to it rather than hunting where it ‘should’ have been. I thought Seren did a really good job with this track. https://youtu.be...

Kelly’s Farm Seren:  2 1-turn tracks in open field, age 3 hrs. She did well on starts & turns themselves but petered out during 2nd leg of 2nd track. Too hot? (70 degrees) She didn’t want water. https://youtu.be/X4kPX-cIchc?feature=shared Dylan:  Obstacle track using woods, 1 hr old. I was happy with this in general. Dylan was not a fan of the prickly cover, but he dealt with it. Video shows I definitely looked in direction of last 2 turns - for shame! https://youtu.be/zHAZaNn1N3M?feature=shared

Dorey Park  Seren:  obstacle track using woods. She thought this young track was a real treat after yesterday’s. Wanted to go into woods where we initially encountered them, but couldn’t find track so made correct decision, came back out & did a great job after that. I was very pleased. https://youtu.be/kRg7axmvzfE?feature=shared Dylan:  straight line article track. 8 total articles, 25yd apart, food 10 yd after each article. I think this was his 1st multiple article track. Needed lots of reminders to lie down. Resisted the temptation to go lift his leg on things. https://youtu.be/sSHezxbvswo?feature=shared

Surry P&R Seren:  8 turn stairstep, age 4.5 hours. All turns flagged. Ran into a patch of sandspurs early on, but she persevered & got through that. Had a novel challenge today - man practicing golf on the same field we were using. She handled that ok. Weather app didn’t indicate much wind, but it seemed stronger to me.  Not our best performance, she seemed to get better toward the last half. Articles good (including golf balls) Just looked at video, & it looked better than it felt in real time. I think I was short on patience at the time we ran the track. I’m aware of moving out too soon at least twice, & I’m pretty sure I looked in the direction of the new leg at at least one turn. https://youtu.be/w-JNQt2AKxQ?feature=shared

Dylan’s tracking class at Cool Water. Track all in woods. 45min  old, food in ‘hard’ places. Cloudy, ~50 degrees, lite wind. He did well, I need to let line out before moving. https://youtu.be/SYlIQ2TiBEU?feature=shared Seren, Windsor Business Park.  2 turn track, scuff start & out of both turns. Food every 10 steps. 2nd turn flagged. Age 3hr 40min. She did pretty well with this set-up. Also I got lots of practice with letting out line before I move on the straightaway when she was stopping every 10 steps. Think I’ll continue with old track/lots of food for a few, then start diminishing the food https://youtu.be/YHkgAkVJMHo?feature=shared

Courthouse Park Seren: 4 turn track, 3rd turn unflagged. Food on all but last leg, 4th leg had jackpot food drop. Article on 3rd leg. 2hr, 45min old Pretty disappointed in this, especially after Tuesday being so good. Recently I’m seeing a lot of nice starts, then petering out after about 30 yd. That’s why the food on the 1st leg, but I don’t think she found much of the food I put down. Still pondering what to do next, thinking about a fairly old -4hourish- track with lots of food https://youtu.be/OcWcL3RNhIs?feature=shared

Surry P&R Dylan:  3 turn track with 2 road crossings. Three food drops in road at each crossing.  3rd turn flagged, also flag in middle of 4th leg.   All turns right on the nose. Not affected by ‘extra’ flag. At first road crossing, had to work at it for a few seconds, 2nd one was great. Did have to think about the guide rope crossing there, tho. Articles could have been better. https://youtu.be/XDgXaeA3Njk?feature=shared

Dorey Park. Seren:  tried again to do the track I had in mind for yesterday. 4 turns, food on 1, 3, &4. Article on each corner except last one (I forgot), & one on straightaway leg 3. Age 3 hours After a gawd-awful start, we managed to muddle through, with me doing what I could think of to help her. I think she just did not want to track today. About all she did well was indicate the articles.  Her next track will be younger, shorter, & have more food on it. https://youtu.be/MOeOk6G_kUM

Windsor Business Park Seren:  My aim was to make a super easy track. Food every 10 steps. Age 1 hour. Finally managed to make a track easy enough that we were able to feel successful https://youtu.be/1y1RftdO0jo Dylan:   cover changes, tall/short grass He did just fine! https://youtu.be/KGnJj5XdDPE

Seren:  Capitol Park. 5 turns, article on each turn. One food drop on 1st leg, none on 2nd, lots on legs 3,4,&5. Returned from running Dylan’s track to find multiple lawnmowers & park employees all over the track. After some consideration, decided to bag it & try again tomorrow. Went & picked up stuff &, tho several articles had been moved, the only casualty was the end flag. Very annoying to have plans constantly thwarted, but oh well. Dylan:  4 turns, intro to tracking in the woods. He aced it! Only issue was numerous opportunities for leg-lifting. But then, he doesn’t really need trees for an excuse https://youtu.be/bDwivW4j2bw
