Kelly’s Farm. Sunny, temp in the low 40’s, moderate wind, low humidity.
Dylan had a 2 turn track, laid by Chris. About 90 min. old. He did well except preferred not to walk in the prickly stuff. Afterward we did some pick up the treats in the prickly cover games, outside of the tracking context & we will continue to do this

At the first turn, did you see him clearly identify the flag as a reason to cast? At 2’46” and for about 10 seconds after, you are clearly pushing him—you are moving faster than he is. Even if he’s in prickers, and you want to help him get through them, HE still needs to take YOU through. At 5’14” he clearly is considering options other than the prickers, and to his credit, he heaves a big sigh and follows the track. FWIW, these conditions are common in most of the country for tracking fields. I’d make sure he learns that working through, or into, the prickers is worthwhile. And make sure you turn in them.
ReplyDeleteI do see flag wise behavior. On days that you put your own track in, if possible, go the evening before and leave flags all over the field. Because he is flagwise, I’d be very, very careful about using extra flags on the track—they WILL end at turns, and now you are just teaching him to follow the flags. Ask Jetta.
