Seren had a simple 2 turn track aged 4 hours. She had a rough start, I think not due to the track age but to the wind deciding to gust around in all directions at that time. I let her check until line ran out & then because she was then heading toward track I took a few steps with her to start moving up the line. (The only alternative I could think of at the time would have been to call her back to the start, but that felt to me like it would be demotivating). Then the wind calmed a bit, she stopped on her own & came back toward the start, then found the track & proceeded confidently for the rest of it. Small sidetrack to eat some 💩 on 2nd leg. Cut 2nd turn by ~10ft.

Dylan had a 2 turn track with ‘sidestep track re-acquisition exercise’ on 1st leg, article on 2nd leg. Age 1hr
He handled this quite well, I thought. Re-found track pretty quickly. Nice start & articles. Affected some by the wind. Momentarily distracted around 2nd turn by walker in the distance. Got back to work promptly after trying to go after cars on the road & trying to process the water bottle for recycling. Note to self: figure out a marker for exactly where sidestep was done. You’d think that would be obvious- I blame it on the wind blowing my brains away.

Nice start after the car chase! Those indications looked great (loved it when he found the end article). Just curious, but other than the articles, was their reinforcement/augmentation anywhere?
ReplyDeleteAnd I have request, if possible, on your maps, can you please mark start and/or end and where articles are placed? It helps me orient more quickly and use less brain power :).
Sure! Start is marked by a little flag, food by an F, article by an X, scuffing by a line parallel, & close to, the line indicating the main track. So, on this track, start is upper right, & it was scuffed; hopover was on 1st leg & start of new line was scuffed; 2nd leg was scuffed ~ 5 steps after turn, then there was an article & then food; Last leg was scuffed 5 steps after turn & food in the middle, followed by end article at the end. Sorry, but I never mark the actual path of the dog as I can’t remember what it was by the time we get to the end😢(even on a 100yd track). Hope that helps & that you can read my map.
DeleteEnd article wasn’t meant to be hidden, but leaves blew over it while track was aging, lol.
Thanks! I more meant moving forward with future maps, marking it on the map itself, but thank you! And I never managed to get to the point to mark Mila's path consistently so know where you're coming from with that!
DeleteHave fun in class tomorrow - bundle up! :)
His refocus after the cars and water bottle were great - his puppy brain is learning to process them better and we can continue to set him up for exposures in positive ways. You do a great job of rotating sites and exposures for him so I have no doubt he'll continue to mature with distractions being less fun - he clearly enjoys the work of tracking most!
ReplyDeleteYour line handling was very thoughtful and supported him well by pulling in line at appropriate times - especially near the disc golf basket. Was the re-acquisition to the R or L of the first half of Leg 1? I could tell when there was LOS but he then seemed to go L and then R before going straight (line up looked similar). As the tracklayer, do you think he was true to the track here? We can discuss more in the morning at class and do another re-acquisition track or something else if needed. Great job!
