 Courthouse Park. Overcast, 40 degrees, 6mph, 60%. Track laid @8:40&aged 100min.

This was a cover change with turns track. At least 1 food drop per leg, sometimes more. All turns except 5th one scuffed, & there was a fair bit of scuffing on the straightaways in the woods, too - not necessarily intentional. Numbers on map indicate my steps, which are considerably less than a yard, especially in the woods. I estimate total length 450-500 yards.

We did pretty well with this one. Seren’s tracking wasn’t her best but I felt like I was reading her well so we didn’t go wrong. I recovered all my flags & clothespins🙂. Start was good. Parallelling the hedgerow was more challenging than it usually is for Seren, but she worked it out. Turn into the woods was good. Hard to say if she indicated metal article in the woods, as there was a pile of animal poop about 18” from it that she tried to roll in. So she did lie down, but… Very nice tracking in the woods. Indicated fabric article on 5th leg shortly before exiting the woods. Entered tall grass/broom sedge readily. Tended to wobble a foot or two to either side while in this cover. Probably would have walked right over article on 6th leg, but I had her on a fairly short line so I stopped as she was going past it & then she downed. Seren’s turn in the tall grass was much better than mine, as I got my line-up confused - there are a lot of light posts in this part of the park.

BTW, this is a nice area for woods work, fairly dense trees but very little underbrush

Dylan did a 25min straight line track, ~200yd, S5, W15,F, W15, S5….
He did fine, fewer distractions than last time we were here, ate almost all the food drops.

  1. betty - we have a pretty full class Sat at the Edwards' property. i will try to get you a three turn blind that does go in the woods or starts in the woods. how old do you want it to be? with the crappy weather forecast, i would say we collaborate on age and when i lay it so that you can just show up when it is close to ready to run.

    1. I think 3 hours or so would be good. Not in the area by the berry garden/agility field or in real prickery underbrush, please. If space is a problem, 2 turns would be fine, total distance doesn’t matter. At least 1 article in the woods. Augment difficult spots - I’m more interested in seeing how well I read my dog than in testing Seren (that’s for the following weekend)
Thank you for the generous offer and special treatment.

    2. Oh and you read your dog very well...but I also think she reads you even better so the blind turns will be good for you both :). It's great when we can get that in class since we cannot really fully replicate it when practicing alone.
