2-3-25
Courthouse Park. Short grass, 55 degrees, 6mph wind, 64% humidity. Sunny. Track laid @8:20 & aged 3 hours.
We did the acute angle turn exercise today. #1’s 1st leg was 70yd with food at 35, right turn. 2nd leg 50 yd w/ food @ 25. #2’s 1st leg was 85yd, food @50, left turn to 30yd 2nd leg.
Seren’s 1st start was stunningly perfect. At a point ~10yd after food drop she wanted to check to the side in both directions, but especially to the right. I kept her from getting very far off the track & she continued on down the leg, lifting her head at exactly the turn around point, made a tight right turn to get on 2nd leg & on to the end. Did not try to deviate from track on 2nd leg.
2nd start was good, but not as good as the 1st one. Tried to get off track (more to the left this time) at about same spot as on track 1, also tried to cut the corner at the turn. I didn’t let either happen. Loss of scent not as precise as on track 1, but checked left first & found 2nd leg very quickly.
I wonder if there was a cross track to account for her trying to go off track (I did leave the scene for a while), but I’m more inclined to think she was smelling the end article due to poor track design on my part. I thought I was making a 45 degree turn, but maybe it was more acute than that. Anyway, I don’t think we have a problem with acute turns - at least not today.
great job keeping her on the track and not allowing her to cut back/over to second leg. i would check that off in my book and not revisit acute angles again, on purpose anyway.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I suspect she was scenting the article. as long as she knows to check behind you, you can leave this exercise alone! Good boy Dylan, glad he’s getting to work out ‘easy’ challenges like ditches. Well done!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good one to have in the tool belt and Dylan's progress is lovely. By the way, pretty sure only tracking people can appreciate the word 'fooded' 😂
