Klehr field. Short grass, ground damp. Overcast, 41 degrees, 7mph wind, 57% humidity. Track laid @ 9:10&aged 2hr 10min.
This was a stairstep track, scuffed as in the training exercise on the website. In addition to start & end articles, there was an article on leg2 (metal lid), 4 (plastic soap dish), & 6 (leather belt). Each article had a food drop 10 yd after the article.
Seren took a couple of seconds to find the start but then was dead on. I practiced looking away when she got to a turn, she always made the right choice. She got pulled away from the track by ‘stuff’ in the field a couple of times. First time she came quickly back on her own, next time I had to tell her to get back to work. All articles very good.
I do plan to do a start track on Thursday. Would love to go out tomorrow & lay a track before the snow starts, then run it after the ground is covered, just for kicks. But the timing is probably not good for that & I do have concerns about driving in that kind of weather - seen too many people do really stupid things.
Dylan did a 1 turn track where the 2nd leg went through a gate in a chain link fence. I didn’t think it would bother him, but since proximity to chain link is supposed to be difficult, I added in food every other step for the 6 steps going thru the gate. Otherwise the pattern was S5,W15,F,W15,S5… At turns, S5 in & out, with food in the middle of both scuffed portions. Track age 25 min, total length about 135yd.
Dylan had to be told to lie down at start article, then started nicely. Turn was good. On 2nd leg, he was more distracted than I have ever seen him by the traffic on the nearby road - wanted to leave & go chase cars! We did manage to finish the track, & he even indicated the end article, but this was the worst I have ever seen him do. Glad we got the video yesterday 😂
We will come back to this site, or a similar one, soon, & I will revert back to a more food-heavy scuff/walk pattern for a few sessions
Ahhh, the BC awakens. Good to know you’ve successfully dealt with car issues before!
ReplyDeleteGlad the turns worked out! I'm curious, did you feel her and that's what made you turn or did you know she was on the turn and you let out X amount of line and then went with her?
ReplyDeleteGlad we got that video of Dylan too :)...Mila chased cars as a puppy too (sigh). She'll still give it a go if it's a car she's go beef with (e.g., loud, rattling, etc).
I could feel which way the line was going, so after ~10ft I turned & went with her
