Dorey Park. Short grass, 60 degrees, 5mph wind, 56% humidity, sunny when track run. Track laid @9:30 & aged 3hr.

This was a duration track, ~1100 yd total, with 2 left turns. 1st leg is at top of google earth screen shot. In addition to start & end articles, leg 1 had 2, leg 2 had 1, & leg 3 had 2. Each article had a food drop 20 steps after it. The last 1/2 of leg 3 had food every 20-40 steps.

Seren had some difficulty with the 1st half of leg 1, checking out all kinds of side scents & not staying on the track very well. Would have been very hard for me had it been a blind track. Got significantly better as we progressed. I didn’t think this part of the park would have been heavily used over the weekend, but that’s kind of how she acted, so I may have been wrong. Or it could have been something else…? I offered water at every article, she took a couple laps at the one on leg 2. Article indications were good.

I think for our next track, which will be next week sometime, I’ll drop back to 2.5hr age & maybe do the obstacle exercise using a road or fence.

  1. Sadly, we will never know what happened! I’d vote get some good tracks under your belt (I like your plan) and then return to Dorey, track in the same area, and see if it’s different. That’s a very contaminated site in general, great place to train.

  2. Just dropping a note so you know I looked at this one. I'll be curious how it goes when you track here again. Just curious (and this is more for my edification)...but how was she on the last leg? How did she do with the changing grass lengths and going from soccer field to border back to soccer field?

    1. Last leg was slightly more muddled as we got closer to road, but not like 1st. Difference in grass lenghts seemed to have no effect
