 Judi’s field

Dylan did a 3 turn track going past groundhog hole at 1st turn. Scuffing & lots of food at groundhog area. Age 40min. Sunny, 28degrees, 5mph, 40%. He has apparently forgotten about the automatic down at articles, so that needs some review, but generally did well. While he found plenty of scents that needed checking out off to the side, he paid no attention to the groundhog home or most of the food all over that turn. Maybe one of these days I will be able to reliably intuit ahead of time what my dogs consider difficult and easy. He overshot 2nd turn a bit - he may find open turns as confusing as I do. There was no flag at that turn, so he may be using them to signal an upcoming turn. Other 2 turns were dead on, even tho I had put in flag for turn 1 way earlier than usual.

  1. First, I am SO proud of you for not tracking Seren!!!! Yes, I’d take that overshoot with no flag as a warning. Make a map, use line ups, use ground markers. He’s a smart dog (or so your license plate says,😄). How about a nice, long article track next? His articles come and go….we are missing something (I know you’re pretty darn consistent), and I can’t figure out what.

  2. Looks good! Even if he ignored the groundhog hole, it's good that you had it in mind and reinforced accordingly (and who knows, maybe that helped get him by it whether he chose to eat the food drops or not)... Also, good that you're keeping the flags as potential cues for him in mind...he's a smart pup, so wouldn't surprise me.
