Chamberlayne Elementary. Sunny day but both tracks almost totally in the shade

Seren had a 3 turn track in the open wooded area. 1 intermediate article. As I was finishing laying the track, saw a man walking in the woods, so there were fresh crosstracks, as her behavior made obvious. Because I knew where the track was, I was able to help her through it & her attitude remained good. Nice start & turns. Article indications weak. I think her next outing will be an article track

Dylan also had 3 turn track that was a little close to buildings & crossed sidewalks & a road. Paved areas scuffed & heavily fooded. Challenges that I didn’t (but should have) anticipate were light road traffic nearby & bare dirt/pine needle patches. Only areas where he had difficulty were moving from pavement back onto grass. He looked at passing car but did not try to go after them. I see an article track in his future as well, also we need blind tracks.

12-8-24 Article Games with Dylan

 I’m cocky enough to think that Seren’s articles are pretty good (at least at the moment). I can think of a couple of games we could have fun with, but they would involve finding appropriate spaces outside, figuring out how to set up the tripod out there, yada, yada, yada. So I took the easy way out to complete the assignment & cheated by using the dog who actually needs this exercise & used Dylan, even though he isn’t in the class. So that he can start generalizing his indication behavior,  I used 2 articles, each stuffed with food. One is the slipper that I use for his little starter tracks, the other a glove he found at the park last week. He isn’t real fluent with his verbal lie down cue yet, so I stayed pretty close to him. That worked out well as my food tossing skills are not to be bragged about either.  Taylor Park Seren’s theme was ‘fun with obstacles’. Had one article with food in it in the woods & one out in the open in addition to start & end She did great with the obstacles & I think had fun doing them. She was very proud of figuring out the fence & wanted to play with passer-by dog, which she never does. Article in woods with food in it is better than food leading up to it, but still needs work. The leg next to the woods was difficult with the slope, but she handled it well. Checked but discarded an opening in the woods prior to the correct one. Age 45 min Start not great - was distracted by dog park & shelter across the street, but didn’t take him long to get to work.  Capitol Park Soccer/Cricket field, Wilder Middle School baseball Both dogs had simple 2 turn tracks designed mainly to push age a bit.  Seren - 3 hours old. At least one unplanned crosstrack near 1st turn. She had trouble getting started, but after 1st leg not too bad. Perhaps the track contamination was more extensive than I thought. Next track I plan for 2.5 hour age https://youtu.be/kEDFTwoFo8M?feature=shared Dylan had unfamiliar article at start, end article ~3ft to left of the track. Age 1 hour 15 min He did well. This age did not appear to be an issue for him. Had to hunt for end article, but he found it after a few seconds.
