Seren did a 3 turn track, L,L,R, with 2nd turn as a hangman’s turn. No article on leg 2. She struggled a bit with the 2nd turn, did not particularly want to check left but finally did & found 3rd leg. I could read LOS easily. Didn’t want to play with articles (or down for that matter), wanted to keep tracking, so I let her. Needs to work more with hangman turns to the left, hope decent weather lasts a while.

Had planned for Dylan to track beside a hedgerow again, but he had diarrhea this morning so I didn’t want to use any food. Instead I did a short straight track with end article hidden behind a tree. Took him a few seconds to find it. I predict next time he locate it faster.

  1. Wow. She really didn’t like the hang man turn. Question: did she give you LOS on the first turn or did you stop her? I can’t tell from the video.
I’d suggest shortening up the hangman portion to maybe just 2 steps past the turn so it’s easier for her to succeed. And be careful doing one of those every training session—I suspect your left turn will break if she determines left turns are hard/require more energy. Next time out, make the lefts easy and motivational. If she concurs that they ARE easy & motivational, then next session try a hangman. If she thinks the lefts are hard, give her another day of easy/motivational.

Interesting that her article behavior has simply dissolved. I think you cuing the down might not be the best plan—do you know what will happen if you are closer as she approaches the article and then simply limit her with the line and see if she offers a down? And then throw a handful of chicken or meatballs at her?

    1. She stopped on her own at 1st turn. Good idea to shorten the hangman. I’ll see what happens with no verbal cue at articles. MaryAnn said during class that I should make her wait down until I get up to her & pick up article, & I certainly understand the rationale for that, but I don’t think it’s the best idea for her, so I’m going to stop doing that. Training only once a month is not a good strategy for her either🙂, I’ll try to do better.

    2. I agree with not holding the down for her at this point. I might set a number you count to (say three) and if she gets up before you get to three, ask her to down again. If she gets up after ‘three’ let her go. I think you both need the clarity of a definite duration of the down, or it will evaporate. You don’t have to move towards her while you are counting—just stand still. A verbal release would be ideal, but again, after a fixed duration down.
