    Huh. First question, what’s happened to Seren’s articles? They’ve always been fantastic, and they seem to be fading fast? Since you (like many of us) will need to be watching where you walk, it’s probably a good idea to reinstall the down until released.

    Betty, in general she doesn’t look like herself in these videos. Is this just today, or do we need to add some motivation back to her tracks? She feels flat, and it doesn’t look like she’s enjoying solving the problems. I know she’s slower than some dogs, but she usually looks like she enjoys working out the challenges. Thoughts?

      I agree with you. That’s why I tried to make today’s (3-20) track really short & easy, didn’t make her wait in the car very long. She still didn’t seem to be really into it. Didn’t even want to play with end glove all that much. I wonder a bit if she might not be feeling good, but she seems fine in other situations, so ? I did switch to a new treat for tracking a week or 2 ago (from Fresh Pet to meatballs) but it’s hard for me to think that’s the issue. Maybe a big food drop just a short ways down the start of the track? Maybe it’s ‘Spring Nose’?

 I’m cocky enough to think that Seren’s articles are pretty good (at least at the moment). I can think of a couple of games we could have fun with, but they would involve finding appropriate spaces outside, figuring out how to set up the tripod out there, yada, yada, yada. So I took the easy way out to complete the assignment & cheated by using the dog who actually needs this exercise & used Dylan, even though he isn’t in the class. So that he can start generalizing his indication behavior,  I used 2 articles, each stuffed with food. One is the slipper that I use for his little starter tracks, the other a glove he found at the park last week. He isn’t real fluent with his verbal lie down cue yet, so I stayed pretty close to him. That worked out well as my food tossing skills are not to be bragged about either.  Hanover Courthouse. 58degrees, 3mph wind, 59% humidity, high thin clouds. Did the crosstrack exercise on the website. Main track laid @8:55& aged 3 hours, XT fresh. Great start, all articles excellent. Overshot 1st turn by ~5ft, quickly recovered on her own. At 1st XT, Seren turned left (backtracking!🤷). I let out 30ft. of line & as soon as I quit playing out the line, she turned around, came back across the main track & went 30ft to the right. When she ran out of line she came back & picked up main track with no difficulty. Second turn was at edge of road, & Seren REALLY wanted the track to cross the road. This time I only gave her about 10 extra feet of line & she reluctantly came back to 3rd leg, which paralleled the road. All remaining turns were up to usual Seren standards. Second XT, she turned left, which was the way the track went this time, & came back after 20 feet, continuing down main track. Third XT, she turn her head in each direction but...

 Courthouse Park. Overcast, 40 degrees, 6mph, 60%. Track laid @8:40&aged 100min. This was a cover change with turns track. At least 1 food drop per leg, sometimes more. All turns except 5th one scuffed, & there was a fair bit of scuffing on the straightaways in the woods, too - not necessarily intentional. Numbers on map indicate my steps, which are considerably less than a yard, especially in the woods. I estimate total length 450-500 yards. We did pretty well with this one. Seren’s tracking wasn’t her best but I felt like I was reading her well so we didn’t go wrong. I recovered all my flags & clothespins🙂. Start was good. Parallelling the hedgerow was more challenging than it usually is for Seren, but she worked it out. Turn into the woods was good. Hard to say if she indicated metal article in the woods, as there was a pile of animal poop about 18” from it that she tried to roll in. So she did lie down, but… Very nice tracking in the woods.
