Cool Spring Elementary School. 73 degrees, 3mph wind, 81% humidity, cloudy. Short grass wet with dew. Track laid @ 9:20 & aged 25 min Since we had taken a few weeks off, & because it was a relatively cool day, my plan was to do a simple track on grass only (maybe crossing a sidewalk or two) where the only challenge was a pretty long length. However, my plan was thwarted by ongoing construction & associated fencing in the area where I wanted to work, so track laying was kind of a ‘wing it’ situation. Start was on grass & 1st leg went 170yd, with food @ 40 & every 10 where it crossed a concrete sidewalk, asphalt road, another sidewalk. Ended with right turn. 2nd leg 140yd on grass, plastic article @30, food @40&100, another right turn. 3rd leg up a slight hill into open woods with minimal underbrush, fabric article @40, food @50. Out of woods to cross asphalt road (food in middle) back to grass. Ended in another right turn after 75 yd. 4th leg went back into ...

Hanover Courthouse. 71 degrees, sunny, 5mph wind 86% humidity. Tracks laid @7:50 & aged 25min This was an exercise in flagless starts. 4 straight tracks, each 50yd, 2 on asphalt, 2 on grass. NV tracks sprayed 10 steps, dry 10 steps with food @5, repeat. Grass tracks had food every 15. Only start & end articles, some of which had food in them (mainly to keep ants out). Seren did very well with this. And, at one point she got off the track a bit & I remembered to step behind her, & almost immediately she got back on track.  Chamberlayne Elementary school. Short grass & open woods with lots of fallen branches. 82degrees, 4mph wind, 75% humidity. Track laid @ 10:05 & aged 30 min Had another go at the article hidden behind log exercise. Started on grass, went 35yd to right turn toward woods. Leg 2 went into woods, food drop at 10 yd at edge of woods, then 30 yd more to log with metal tin containing food behind it, then 10 yd more (total 50) to left turn. Leg 3 went 50 yd (food @20) to  right turn. Leg 4 crossed 2 logs very close together (but with room to lie down) with plastic article between them @16 yd, Then went another 14 yd, crossing another log with no article before a left turn. Leg 5 went 35 yd, crossing log with tin containing food @13, & ending with an open right turn. Leg 6 went 20 yd to food drop, then another 40 out of woods onto grass. Good start & start article. Metal containers were meant to keep ants out, but I’m sure the food they contained also helped with the in...

Hanover Courthouse. 73 degrees, overcast, 7mph wind, 92% humidity.  This was designed to be an intro to deliberate crosstracks. Main track laid at 7:50, crosstracks laid at 8:40, track run at 8:43. Main track was straight line 200 yds long, which I laid. Crosstracks, laid by Valerie, crossed main track every 30-50yd, alternating right to left & left to right, 6 times. Excellent start & articles. Crosstracks were interesting - some Seren totally ignored, others she checked & discarded quickly, & a couple she would have like to  have followed. Direction did not seem to matter. Link to video:    https://youtu.be/P6Lc2UNOGbw?feature=shared
